Money and Career are intricately related by design. We work for a purpose but mostly we also work for a living. Which means we are not working for free, but for money.
So careers are needed to make money. Whether you are in a job or business, your career is an essential and the most important part of your wealth building strategy.
No doubt there are so many career counseling, job search and coaching programs available today to help you grow in your career choices and progress to the next level.
The next level could mean more money, better titles and more visibility. Usually a tangible metric is the amount of money you are earning and there is no upper cap if you are in the right industry or profession or business.
But what if I tell you the contrary is also important?
Does it mean you need money to build a better career? Do you need money to get the coveted job? Do you need money to get the promotion?
Well, I do not mean the negative things like bribes, corruption or using money as a status symbol. This is very tricky and a limiting mindset we have when it comes to using money for elevating our lifestyle and career.
Money is not evil, lusting about money is. And this post is not about money lust.
So how does money affect our careers?
Before I go into the benefits of money or money habits, let me give some examples of how people who are not good with money face in their careers.
- They feel stuck in a job they don’t love but the job is paying the bills.
- They are afraid of speaking the truth or their ideas out in fear of getting fired.
- They have taken up huge financial burdens (mortgage, car loans, personal loans) and are afraid of losing their job.
- They are not able to take risks and follow their dreams or passion.
- They do not have a plan, so even if they have the money they are not sure how free they are.
- They are comparing their performance with another person’s meaning of success.
So any career move will be very cautious, very fearful and not being authentic to one’s own desires and dreams. This can cause major mental and physical health problems, adding to the stress the job already creates.
On the other hand, a financially organized person will be much more clear on his/her career goals, have a plan to take care of all contingencies and goals. He/she will be able to take more risks and chase his/her true passions and dreams in life.
How to do this? This can be achieved in four simple steps that I have talked about in previous blogs. Here they are for easy read and reference.
Conclusion
I hope this blog opened up the role of good money habits to enhance your career.
Careers make money. Good money habits make better career choices.
